Comic Strip Development

We will look at the life and work of Charles Schulz (Peanuts), Jim Davis (Garfield), and Bill Watterson (Calvin and Hobbes) and discuss the creative process used by these cartoon artists. The students will then create a main character, a supporting character, and a setting.  Once these basics are in place, then they will come up with a problem and a solution for these characters, which will be used to help them create a small comic strip about them.
This could be considered a cross-curriculum project because the students will learn both writing and drawing techniques that are not only applicable to the comic strip creation process but can also be used to write and illustrate any type of story.
