What exactly does it mean to have a career as an artist. We will discuss the difference between being a Fine Artist and a Commercial Artist. I will show the students some of my work and explain to them what it means to be a professional illustrator. We will then look at some different careers in the field of Design. The students will begin the semester by doing some activities that will help them think like designers. Our first assignment will be an introduction to packaging design. We will look at different packages and learn about the elements that make up the whole. The students will be asked to write a paragraph comparing two different packages and then they will be asked to redesign their least favorite one.
